The rise in online fraud and cybercrime has made it essential for people to stay aware and take preventive measures. The police department is actively working to educate the public about cyber threats and fraud prevention. Various awareness programs are being conducted to help people protect themselves from digital scams.

Cybercriminals Target Every Internet User

SP Rajesh Kalia stated that cybercriminals target anyone using digital platforms, including social media, internet banking, and online transactions. They use different tactics such as:

  • Fake friend requests to gather personal details
  • Phishing scams through emails and messages
  • Fraudulent loan apps that steal banking information
  • Call forwarding scams to hijack phone numbers
  • Parcel fraud where victims receive unordered items
  • Hacking social media and email accounts to scam contacts

These fraudsters collect sensitive information, including personal photos and bank details, and then misuse it to empty victims’ accounts.

How to Stay Safe from Cybercrime

To protect yourself from cyber fraud, follow these precautions:

✅ Secure your social media and banking apps with strong passwords.
✅ Avoid sharing personal details with unknown individuals.
✅ Do not click on suspicious links in emails or messages.
✅ Verify loan or financial schemes before providing any details.
✅ Stay alert to fraud calls or messages offering fake rewards or schemes.

Report Cyber Fraud Immediately

SP Rajesh Kalia emphasized that awareness is the best defense against cyber fraud. If you become a victim of online fraud, don’t panic. Instead, immediately call the National Cyber Helpline 1930. Reporting fraud on time can help recover lost money and prevent further crimes.

Stay alert, stay safe!
