DC Preeti Directs Officials in Road Safety Committee Meeting

Kaithal, March 27 – Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti emphasized that encroachment in cities is a serious issue affecting road safety, requiring immediate and effective action. It not only disrupts traffic flow but also increases the risk of accidents. She instructed municipal councils and all urban local bodies to take this matter seriously and launch an encroachment removal drive with police assistance. Sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) were directed to monitor the campaign, and notices for encroachments are to be issued starting Thursday. If not cleared within the stipulated time, even permanent encroachments will be removed.

DC Preeti was addressing officials during a Road Safety Committee meeting at the Mini Secretariat auditorium on Thursday. She directed departments to repair roads under their jurisdiction and ensure all necessary safety measures are in place. All government and private schools must comply with road safety standards. She further instructed the police, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), and education department to enforce safety regulations on school buses and impound vehicles that fail to meet the required norms.

Additionally, DC Preeti urged district officials to visit at least one school and educate students about traffic rules and the dangers of drug abuse. Relevant departments were also instructed to install speed limit signs and other traffic indicators on roads. The electricity department was directed to cover exposed wires along roadsides, while the forest department was asked to remove tree stumps from Sector 18 roads.

During the meeting, RTA Officer Girish Kumar reported that in February, the police issued 2,974 challans, collecting fines totaling ₹23.53 lakh, while RTA teams issued 115 challans, recovering ₹38.07 lakh in fines.

Due to their absence in the meeting, show-cause notices were issued to the CEO of the District Council, the District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO), and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Deepak Babu Lal Karwa, RTA Officer Girish Kumar, SDM Captain Pramesh Singh (Guhla), SDM Ajay Hooda (Kalayat), DSP Gurvinder Singh, DIO Deepak Khurana, various department engineers, Traffic SHO Ramesh Kumar, and non-government committee member Satish Seth.
