Water Level Below Danger Mark Despite Heavy Rain

Guhla-Cheeka, September 3 — SDM Capt. Parmesh Singh confirmed that despite overnight rainfall, the Ghaggar river water level remains below the danger mark. At Tatiana point, the water level measured 22.5 feet by noon, indicating a controlled situation. Local staff, including village secretaries, patwaris, and other officials, continue round-the-clock monitoring in flood-prone villages.

He assured residents not to panic, emphasizing that the administration stands firmly with them. “Necessary steps are being taken to address the rising water level. People’s cooperation with the administration is essential to avoid difficulties,” he said.

Coordination With Punjab Administration

As per DC Preeti’s directions, the Kaithal administration held discussions with the Punjab administration. Concerns were raised over a 15-foot-wide privately built embankment at Jalah Khedi village, which could affect nearby villages in Haryana, including Sihali. SDM Singh clarified that the embankment was not a government structure but created by locals. Irrigation officials have already inspected the site, and the matter is under close watch.

Preparedness Across 32 Villages

According to irrigation department inputs, 32 villages in Guhla are under continuous observation. After the 2023 floods, stone pitching was carried out on a 3,000-foot stretch of the Ghaggar embankment to strengthen it. The SDM confirmed that machinery and manpower are in place, including:

4 JCBs
4 tractors with trolleys
100 laborers
5 pump sets
Additionally, empty and filled sandbags are stocked, ready for emergency use. Panchayat officials are also holding regular meetings with sarpanches to ensure necessary village-level arrangements.

Appeal to Residents: Avoid Rumors

Capt. Parmesh Singh urged residents to stay away from rumors and rely only on official information. “The situation is normal, there is no need to panic. With the support of the public, any emergency can be managed effectively,” he assured.

Quick Action in Paparala Village

In Paparala village, when farmers raised concerns about waterlogging, Naib Tehsildar Bansi Lal immediately visited the site. After discussions with villagers, a blocked culvert was reopened, resolving the problem. Villagers expressed gratitude, stating they felt reassured by the administration’s quick response.

Bansi Lal reiterated that the administration remains on alert mode with continuous monitoring in flood-prone areas and is committed to ensuring that no villager faces hardship.
