Kaithal Police Issues Advisory to Tackle Rising Cyber Crime

Kaithal, May 26 โ€“ With cyber crime on the rise, the Kaithal Police has released a public advisory urging citizens to protect themselves from online fraud. Superintendent of Police (SP) Aastha Modi emphasized the need for public awareness and caution, as cybercriminals continue to trap people using fake offers and deceptive tactics.

Avoid Tempting Offers and Fake Loans

Fraudsters often lure victims with fake loan offers and online deals. SP Modi warned people not to share their bank account details, OTPs, or any financial information with unknown callers or links. Such tactics are common tricks used in cyber fraud.

Keep Your Social Media Secure

The advisory also stressed securing social media accounts like Facebook and Instagram. Users should enable privacy settings, create strong passwords, and avoid clicking on suspicious links. Keeping accounts safe is a crucial step to prevent cybercrime.

Stay Alert with Loan Apps

Many fake apps claim to offer instant loans but actually steal personal data. Once installed, these apps can hack phones and misuse contacts and photos to blackmail victims. SP Modi advised people to read terms and conditions carefully and avoid unknown or unverified apps.

Be Cautious Using Payment Apps

Apps like Google Pay and PhonePe should be used carefully. People should not click on unfamiliar money requests or links, which may result in unauthorized transactions. Always verify the recipient before entering your PIN.

Use Cyber Helpline in Case of Fraud

If anyone becomes a victim of cyber fraud, they should immediately call the Cyber Helpline at 1930 or register a complaint online at the National Cyber Crime Portal. Victims can also visit the nearest police station and seek help from the Cyber Help Desk.

Public Sentiment:
Citizens have welcomed the move, praising Kaithal Policeโ€™s proactive approach. The advisory is seen as a much-needed step in educating people, especially senior citizens and internet users unfamiliar with digital safety.
