Kaithal, April 17 – In a growing number of visa frauds, police have arrested a man for cheating a youth of ₹15 lakh. The victim was promised a job in Germany. The arrest follows strict action led by SP Rajesh Kalia, who has instructed officers to crack down on such crimes.
This incident involved the victim, Gurmeet, a 12th-pass youth from Kaithal. He dreamed of going abroad to support his family. Unfortunately, his dream turned into a nightmare after falling into the trap of a fraudulent agent.
How the Scam Unfolded
Family Contact Used to Build Trust
In January, Gurmeet’s father met Surender Kumar, a man from village Bhana. Surender claimed his son, Rajat, was living in Germany. He offered to help Gurmeet go there too. A few days later, Surender visited Gurmeet’s house with his wife. He claimed that Rajat had agreed to arrange a work visa for Germany.
The couple demanded ₹15 lakh, assuring that everything would be legal and guaranteed. Trusting them, Gurmeet’s family paid ₹13 lakh upfront and handed over the required documents.
False Hope and Real Trouble
Travel Arranged, But Not to Germany
On April 8, Rajat sent a visa copy and a flight ticket to Dubai to Gurmeet’s home. Believing everything was in place, Gurmeet left for Dubai the same day. Rajat had even booked a hotel there for him.
For a few days, Rajat kept in touch with Gurmeet via mobile. But soon after, he asked for ₹2 lakh more, claiming it was required to complete formalities. The family managed to send the extra money.
That’s when communication stopped. Rajat stopped answering calls. His parents also refused to speak or offer help.

When Victim Asked for Refund
As reality sank in, Gurmeet contacted local villagers and held a panchayat meeting. Under pressure, the accused initially promised to return the money. However, they kept delaying it.
Worse, the family threatened Gurmeet, warning him not to demand the money back or he would be killed in Dubai. Shocked and helpless, Gurmeet somehow returned to India.

The Economic Offences Cell, led by PSI Sandeep Kumar and ASI Rampal Singh, took over the investigation. They arrested Rajat from village Bhana based on the victim’s complaint.
