Kaithal, September 18 – Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti emphasized that the ongoing Service Fortnight (Seva Pakwada), celebrated nationwide on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, is reinforcing the spirit of awareness, cooperation, service, and cleanliness across society.
The fortnight-long initiative, running until October 2, features a series of activities, including large-scale cleanliness drives in municipal bodies and village panchayats. Officers, employees, elected representatives, and sanitation workers are actively participating in the campaign.
Cleanliness as a Way of Life
DC Preeti underlined that cleanliness should not be treated as a formality but should become an integral part of daily life.
“Just as we take care of our personal hygiene, we must also commit to keeping our streets, neighborhoods, and cities clean,” she said.
She recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi began turning into reality in 2014 through the Swachh Bharat Mission. Today, this initiative has grown into a nationwide people’s movement.
Public Participation Is the Key
According to DC Preeti, the success of the cleanliness drive depends not only on officials and sanitation workers but also on active participation from every citizen.
“All officers, employees, representatives, and sanitation workers are committed to making cities clean and developed. But if citizens also join in, nothing can stop India from becoming a developed nation,” she remarked.
Appeal to Citizens
The Deputy Commissioner urged residents to:
- Support sanitation workers in their duties.
- Dispose of waste only at designated spots.
- Avoid the use of plastic and polythene bags.
She stressed that maintaining urban and rural cleanliness is a shared responsibility, essential for both health and development.
