Accused Confesses to 14 Other Snatching Incidents
Kaithal: The Special Detective Unit has achieved a major breakthrough by arresting the accused in the firing case on a beauty parlor owner in Pundri. During a press conference, DSP Gurvinder Singh provided details, stating that Urmila, who runs a beauty parlor and hair salon in Guru Brahmanand Colony, Pundri, along with her husband and brother-in-law Manjeet, was attacked by Birbal, a former employee.
According to Urmila’s complaint, Birbal, who had worked at their salon 4-5 years ago, was involved in criminal activities and had been arrested multiple times. Due to this, he was removed from the job, leading to personal enmity between them. Over time, tensions escalated, and on March 21 at around 1:30 PM, Birbal arrived at the salon and assaulted Urmila. Hearing the commotion, her brother-in-law Manjeet intervened, but Birbal pulled out a pistol and fired at her with intent to kill. The bullet narrowly missed her, grazing her neck, and the accused fled the scene after issuing death threats. A case was registered at Pundri Police Station.

Under the orders of SP Rajesh Kalia, SI Ramesh Kumar, in charge of the Special Detective Unit, along with ASI Tarshem and his team, tracked down and arrested Birbal from Outer Assandh Road, Karnal, on Wednesday evening.
During interrogation, Birbal confessed to multiple crimes, including bike snatching in Karnal (2016) and an assault case in Kurukshetra (2023), which led to his imprisonment. Upon release, his brother and sister-in-law refused to rehire him, fueling his grudge. This resentment led him to plan and execute the attack on March 21 with an accomplice.
Further investigation revealed that between 2023 and 2025, Birbal, along with his associates, was involved in 14 snatching cases—8 in Kaithal and 6 in Karnal. To gather more information, police have secured a 3-day remand of the accused from the court on Thursday.
