Suicide is a Social and Mental Illness, Solution Lies in Collective Efforts: Dr. Jasbir Singh
Guhla Cheeka, September 10 – On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, DAV College, Cheeka organized an awareness lecture. The expert team from Deepak Hospital, Cheeka, attended the program as chief guests. A large number of students participated in the seminar held in the college premises.
Inaugurating the event, College Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh said, “Suicide is not just an individual crisis, but a deep mental and social illness. Its solution lies only in collective efforts and open dialogue.”
On this occasion, medical experts including Dr. Jasvinder Singh, Dr. Virender Pal, and Dr. Rajender Singh shared their insights on the causes and prevention of suicide. Alongside, psychological counselors Manpreet Kaur, Neha Rani, Manpreet Singh, Sanjay Khan, and Jaskaran Singh guided students on how to deal with stress, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
Speakers highlighted that stress, loneliness, family conflicts, and financial problems are the major causes of suicide. According to WHO and IASP reports, millions of people lose their lives to suicide every year, and this number is rising rapidly in countries like India.
The experts urged students not to remain silent under any circumstances, but to openly share their feelings with family, friends, or counselors. They emphasized that suicide is not a solution, but a dangerous way of escaping problems. Through counseling, communication, and support, every problem can be resolved.
Concluding the event, Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh appealed to students to look at life with a positive outlook and face every challenge with courage. He said, “Life is precious, and World Suicide Prevention Day reminds us that every problem has a solution.”
