Tree Plantation Drive Organised at PDK on World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, a tree plantation program was organised at the Government Polytechnic Institute, Pihowa. The event witnessed active participation from the institute’s Principal, Professor N.S. Rana, staff members, students, and environmentally conscious local residents. Around 70 saplings of various species were planted within the campus.

The drive began with the ceremonial planting of medicinal and oxygen-rich trees by dignitaries. Participants took an oath to promote environmental awareness in society and pledged to carry forward the mission of afforestation in their own areas.

Speaking at the event, Principal Rana emphasised that “Trees are not just a part of nature, but the foundation of life on Earth.” He pointed out that in the face of rising pollution, global warming, and climate challenges, tree plantation is not just an activity—it is a social responsibility and a commitment to future generations.

He further encouraged students to not limit their efforts to the campus alone but also plant trees in their homes, villages, and towns. He underlined that each tree planted contributes clean air, a calm environment, and a better tomorrow. Even planting one tree a year with care can greatly impact the environment, he said.

Several dignitaries including Dainy Lapsauda, Jagtho Kumar, Latho Kumar Kanda, Nandkeshwar Dhemku, Baljinder Japla, Dosey, Jaymitra Singh, Alpendra Singh, Gagan Bhora, and Kapil Kumar participated in the drive and planted saplings with dedication.

At the end of the program, students resolved to plant at least one tree every year and take full responsibility for its care. They also raised slogans like “Plant Trees, Save Environment,” spreading energy and environmental awareness in the atmosphere.

The institute affirmed its commitment to continue such programs in the future as well to spread environmental consciousness in society.
