Yoga Camp in Kaithal Helps Pregnant Women with Safe Delivery and Peaceful Mind

A special yoga camp focused on pregnant women is being organized at the District Civil Hospital in Kaithal from April 21 to April 26, 2025. This initiative, under the joint collaboration of the Ayush Department and the Haryana Yoga Commission, aims to empower women during pregnancy through yoga and meditation.

Led by Dr. Shakuntala Dahiya, District Ayurvedic Officer, the camp has already seen enthusiastic participation, with around 50 pregnant women joining on the first day.

Safe Pregnancy Through Yoga

The camp includes a series of gentle exercises and targeted asanas that are especially beneficial during pregnancy. These sessions are tailored to help women manage body changes, maintain flexibility, and reduce delivery-related stress.

Key practices include:

  • Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana): Helps strengthen the pelvic muscles and promotes flexibility, aiding in normal delivery.
  • Bhadrasana: Known as one of the safest and most effective yoga poses during pregnancy, it enhances lower-body strength and supports safe birthing.
  • Neck, back, and knee stretches: These subtle movements relieve muscular tension.
  • Breathing techniques: Anulom Vilom, Nadi Shodhan, and Bhramari help in calming the mind, reducing anxiety, and improving oxygen flow.

Nutrition Guidance Alongside Yoga

Apart from physical exercises, participants are educated on essential pregnancy nutrition. Yoga experts explained how the right diet can ensure proper fetal development and overall well-being.

They emphasized:

  • Consuming green vegetables, salads, protein, iron, calcium, and vitamin-rich foods.
  • Avoiding junk and highly processed foods during the pregnancy period.
  • Staying hydrated and maintaining a regular sleep schedule.

These simple yet powerful habits contribute significantly to both the mother’s and the babyโ€™s health.

Bhadrasana: A Key to Natural Birth

Dr. Shakuntala Dahiya highlighted the specific importance of Bhadrasana for expectant mothers. According to her, this posture provides:

  • Enhanced pelvic flexibility
  • Strengthened lower muscles
  • Better blood circulation in the lower abdomen
  • Increased comfort during labor

These benefits collectively improve the chances of a normal delivery. With guidance from trained professionals, many women are now incorporating this into their daily routine.

Camp Locations and Outreach

The yoga camp isnโ€™t limited to one venue. In fact, under Dr. Dahiyaโ€™s guidance, similar camps are also being conducted at various locations, including:

  • Rajkiya Sanskriti Model Senior Secondary School, Pundri
  • PHC Devban
  • Vridh Ashram, Committee Chowk, Kaithal

Each of these locations aims to provide access to quality yoga training to pregnant women, senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and children.

The six-day program is part of a broader plan to create awareness about the holistic benefits of yoga.

Dedicated Experts Behind the Scenes

The campโ€™s success is powered by a committed team of professionals:

  • Dr. H.S. Hooda, a senior yoga specialist, is overseeing all technical aspects.
  • Yoga assistants like Virender Arya, Sandeep Singh, Seema Kumari, Sapna Devi, and Rekha Devi are conducting sessions with care.
  • Dr. Anjali Shyokand and Dr. Suman are making significant contributions by helping participants understand the medical relevance of the exercises.

Together, theyโ€™re offering a well-rounded experience that merges physical strength with emotional balance.

Yoga as a Lifelong Wellness Habit

Though this camp focuses on pregnancy, the long-term vision is to instill yoga as a daily health practice.
According to the organizers:

  • Mental peace is just as vital as physical well-being during pregnancy.
  • Mindful breathing and stretching can prevent complications and boost natural recovery post-delivery.
  • Such camps can reduce dependence on medications during pregnancy and improve emotional resilience.

Public Sentiment: Warm and Supportive

The response from the women attending has been overwhelmingly positive. Many said they felt calmer, more energized, and better prepared for childbirth.
Some participants even expressed interest in continuing yoga beyond their pregnancy.

The campaign is not only helping individuals but also changing the communityโ€™s perception of natural health methods. Families are increasingly showing support, ensuring that pregnant women can safely and comfortably attend sessions.

Why Yoga for Pregnancy Matters

In todayโ€™s fast-paced and often stressful world, pregnancy complications are on the rise. Yoga offers a natural, safe, and cost-effective way to:

  • Manage physical discomfort
  • Reduce mental stress
  • Strengthen the body for labor
  • Improve chances of natural delivery

These camps are not just temporary eventsโ€”they are laying the foundation for a healthier future generation.

Whatโ€™s Next?

Given the success of this program, more such yoga camps are planned in the coming months. The Ayush Department also plans to integrate regular yoga guidance into prenatal care across government health centers.

Dr. Dahiya encourages all pregnant women, especially those in rural areas, to join these initiatives. She also requested husbands and family members to support women in continuing yoga practices at home.

Conclusion: A Step Toward Healthier Motherhood

The Kaithal yoga camp is a shining example of how traditional practices can be effectively blended into modern healthcare. With focused attention on both physical and emotional wellness, such efforts promise a stronger, healthier motherhood experience.

This isnโ€™t just about exerciseโ€”itโ€™s about empowerment. When a woman is mentally calm and physically strong, sheโ€™s better prepared for one of lifeโ€™s most beautiful journeysโ€”motherhood.
