Accused Arrested for ₹15 Lakh Visa Fraud

Victim Misled with False Germany Work Visa Promise

Kaithal, April 17 – In a growing number of visa frauds, police have arrested a man for cheating a youth of ₹15 lakh. The victim was promised a job in Germany. The arrest follows strict action led by SP Rajesh Kalia, who has instructed officers to crack down on such crimes.

This incident involved the victim, Gurmeet, a 12th-pass youth from Kaithal. He dreamed of going abroad to support his family. Unfortunately, his dream turned into a nightmare after falling into the trap of a fraudulent agent.

How the Scam Unfolded

Family Contact Used to Build Trust

In January, Gurmeet’s father met Surender Kumar, a man from village Bhana. Surender claimed his son, Rajat, was living in Germany. He offered to help Gurmeet go there too. A few days later, Surender visited Gurmeet’s house with his wife. He claimed that Rajat had agreed to arrange a work visa for Germany.

The couple demanded ₹15 lakh, assuring that everything would be legal and guaranteed. Trusting them, Gurmeet’s family paid ₹13 lakh upfront and handed over the required documents.

False Hope and Real Trouble

Travel Arranged, But Not to Germany

On April 8, Rajat sent a visa copy and a flight ticket to Dubai to Gurmeet’s home. Believing everything was in place, Gurmeet left for Dubai the same day. Rajat had even booked a hotel there for him.

For a few days, Rajat kept in touch with Gurmeet via mobile. But soon after, he asked for ₹2 lakh more, claiming it was required to complete formalities. The family managed to send the extra money.

That’s when communication stopped. Rajat stopped answering calls. His parents also refused to speak or offer help.

From Dreams to Threats

When Victim Asked for Refund

As reality sank in, Gurmeet contacted local villagers and held a panchayat meeting. Under pressure, the accused initially promised to return the money. However, they kept delaying it.

Worse, the family threatened Gurmeet, warning him not to demand the money back or he would be killed in Dubai. Shocked and helpless, Gurmeet somehow returned to India.

The Shocking Truth

Fake Visa Sent via Mobile

After returning, Gurmeet discovered that the visa sent on mobile was completely fake. The whole operation had been a scam. He immediately approached the Poondri police station, and a case was registered.

The Economic Offences Cell, led by PSI Sandeep Kumar and ASI Rampal Singh, took over the investigation. They arrested Rajat from village Bhana based on the victim’s complaint.

Ongoing Investigation

Police Seek More Clues

The court has granted two-day police remand for Rajat. Officers hope to gather more information and identify others who may be involved. This may include his parents and other potential victims.

The police spokesperson said,

“We are taking strict action against such frauds. No one will be spared.”

Authorities are now trying to recover the money and trace how many others may have been fooled by the same group.

A Rising Concern

Fake Visa Scams on the Rise

Cases of fake job offers and fraudulent visas have been increasing in the region. Desperate youths are being misled by agents who promise overseas jobs. These scams often involve fake documents, false promises, and even threats.

Many victims don’t report such frauds due to fear or shame. But police are urging the public to come forward.

“Never pay large sums without legal contracts or verified agents,” said a senior official.

Public Reactions

Anger and Sympathy for the Victim

The local community is shocked. Many feel angry that families are being exploited so easily. People expressed sympathy for Gurmeet, who returned mentally shaken and financially broken.

Villager Sukhbir said,

“It could have happened to anyone. He only wanted a better life.”

Police Advice to Public

Stay Alert, Report Fraud

The police have issued safety guidelines for anyone looking to go abroad:

  • Verify the travel agent’s license
  • Never pay large amounts in cash
  • Insist on proper agreements and receipts
  • Confirm visa details through official government websites
  • Report fraud without delay

SP Rajesh Kalia emphasized,

“People should not fall for shortcuts. Always follow legal and verified processes.”

Conclusion

This shocking case shows how quickly dreams can turn into nightmares when trust is misplaced. Gurmeet’s story is not just a cautionary tale, but a wake-up call.

The authorities are doing their part. However, public awareness is equally important. Young people and their families must stay informed, ask questions, and never rush into deals involving large sums.

As investigations continue, there is hope that justice will be served, and others will be saved from such traps in the future.
