Man Arrested for Canada Visa Fraud in Kaithal
Kaithal, April 18 – A man was arrested for cheating people by promising to send them abroad. The police acted on SP Rajesh Kalia’s directions.
In one such case, a resident of Bubakpur, Harkirat alias Rana, was caught for allegedly duping a man of over ₹12.63 lakh. The victim was promised a Canada work visa.
Victim Deceived with Fake Visa and False Hope
According to the police, Darshan Singh from Salempur filed a complaint earlier against Amarjeet Singh and others for similar fraud.
Later, he came in contact with Harkirat and advocate Ajay Mehta. They promised help in filing the case and took ₹50,000 in the name of a police official in June 2024.
Harkirat then claimed he could send Darshan’s family to Canada within 7 days. Trusting him, Darshan gave around ₹17 lakh and documents.
Fraud Uncovered After Visa Found to Be Fake
On August 7, Harkirat sent visa and ticket copies. But after checking, Darshan found them to be fake.
Even after repeated requests, Harkirat delayed and gave false promises. Eventually, a village meeting was held. Some money was returned, but ₹12.63 lakh remained unpaid.
Threats and Legal Action Followed
When Darshan asked for the rest of the money, the accused threatened to kill him. A case was soon filed at Guhla Police Station.
The Economic Offences Cell, led by PSI Sandeep Kumar and ASI Rohtash Singh, arrested the accused.
To uncover more, police obtained a 4-day remand from the court for further questioning.
