Cheeka, June 11
Hundreds, including over 50 women, gathered at the Cheeka police station on Monday to protest against what they called one-sided police action in a case filed against Municipal Vice Chairperson Pooja Sharma, her husband Rajiv Sharma, and others.
The protesters expressed anger over the absence of the SHO, chanting slogans and alleging police corruption. They claimed the case against the Sharmas was politically motivated and unfair.
The situation stems from a June 7 dispute in Ward 7 between sanitation contractor Manoj Kumar and councillor’s husband Vijay Goyal over park cleaning. Goyal alleged that Manoj and others attacked him with sharp weapons and snatched his gold chain, accusing the Sharmas of conspiring against him for initiating a no-confidence motion.

In contrast, Manoj Kumar claimed he was insulted with casteist slurs, but his complaint was initially dismissed by the police as false. He told DSP Kuldeep Singh Beniwal that CCTV footage proves no weapon or serious assault occurred and that Goyal was seen conversing normally afterward.
Responding to the protest, DSP Beniwal assured an impartial inquiry. A five-member committee will review documents and videos by Thursday. If evidence proves Goyal’s claim false, the case will be dismissed, and action under Section 182 (false complaint) will be taken against the complainant.
Rajiv Sharma denied all allegations, offering to resign if found even 1% guilty. He accused former MLA Kulwant Bazigar and Congress leaders of political vendetta.
BJP SC Morcha district president Salindra Valmiki demanded FIR under the SC/ST Act and criticized the SHO for not registering it. Farmer leader Hardeep Singh Badsui echoed the sentiment, urging equal action on their complaints, promising to accept legal consequences if found false.
The incident has stirred significant public and political response, with demands for fairness and accountability from local law enforcement.
