๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ Russian Plane Crash Near Tynda: 48 Dead in Antonov An-24 Tragedy

In a tragic incident on July 24, 2025, a Russian Antonov An-24 passenger aircraft crashed in the Amur region, killing all 48 people on board, including five children. The aircraft, operated by Angara Airlines, was en route from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda when it vanished from radar during a second attempt to land amid poor weather conditions.

๐Ÿ“ Crash Site and Rescue Efforts

The aircraft crashed into dense forest terrain approximately 15 km south of Tynda. Emergency responders reported the wreckage was on fire when located by an Mi-8 helicopter. Over 149 rescue personnel and 21 units of equipment were deployed, but no survivors were found. The bodies have been recovered and sent for identification.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Passengers and Crew

A total of 42 passengers and 6 crew members were on board. Among the victims:

  • 5 were children
  • One of the pilots, Kirill Plaksin, was reportedly involved in a legal case related to a drug test and was heading to a court appearance the same day.

Authorities confirmed all on board died in the impact and fire.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ About the Aircraft

The aircraft, an Antonov An-24 built in 1976, was nearly 50 years old. Despite its age, it had been cleared for operation until 2036. Aviation analysts raised concerns over Russia’s reliance on Soviet-era planes, especially in remote areas like the Far East, where weather and infrastructure create high-risk conditions.

๐Ÿ” What Caused the Crash?

A criminal investigation has been launched, with officials citing possible:

  • Crew error during landing
  • Severe weather and poor visibility
  • Mechanical failure (not ruled out)

Investigators are analyzing flight data recorders, cockpit conversations, and maintenance logs. The Interstate Aviation Committee is leading the probe with assistance from the Transport Prosecutorโ€™s Office.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Government Reaction and Mourning

  • Amur Governor Vasily Orlov declared three days of mourning
  • President Vladimir Putin was briefed and extended condolences to the victimsโ€™ families
  • Emergency response and support teams have been sent to assist affected relatives

โš ๏ธ Russiaโ€™s Aging Aircraft Concerns

This crash has reignited debate about:

  • Russiaโ€™s continued use of aging aircraft
  • The impact of Western sanctions limiting access to modern aircraft parts
  • Safety in remote domestic flight routes

The incident is one of the deadliest air disasters in Russia in recent years.

๐Ÿ“ฐ What Happens Next?

Authorities have pledged to:

  • Release preliminary investigation results within two weeks
  • Review safety certifications of other aging aircraft
  • Offer compensation to victim families

Further updates are expected as black box data is analyzed and official findings are released.
