Honoring a Brave Son of India
Cheeka, July 31:
On the occasion of Shaheedi Diwas, Patanjali Yoga Samiti organized a heartfelt tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Udham Singh at Shri Vishwakarma Temple in Cheeka. The event remembered Singh’s supreme sacrifice and highlighted the values he stood for.
General Dyer’s Brutality Sparked a Revolution
Chief guest and Patanjali district in-charge, Acharya Hariom Shokal, recalled the horrific events of April 13, 1919, when thousands of unarmed Indians were massacred at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar by General Dyer. Among the witnesses was a 19-year-old Udham Singh, who vowed to avenge the atrocity.
The Revenge That Shook the Empire
After 21 years of determination, Udham Singh traveled to England. On March 13, 1940, at Caxton Hall, London, he shot and killed Michael O’Dwyer, the man who had justified the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. This act sent a powerful message to the world that India would not tolerate insults to its dignity.
Martyrs Are the Backbone of Freedom
Acharya Shokal emphasized that India’s freedom was won through the sacrifices of heroes like Udham Singh. “His life was dedicated to the nation and its people. Every citizen must learn from his courage and commitment,” he said.
A Call for Unity and National Progress
He further stated that forgetting our martyrs is a sign of a nation in decline. “Working for the unity and progress of the nation is the truest tribute we can offer to our freedom fighters,” he added.
Dignitaries Present at the Event
The event saw participation from several local leaders and members of the Patanjali team, including Tehsil In-charge Charandas Gupta, Youth In-charge Mahavir Prajapati, Ishwar Singla, Inder Mohan Mittal, Sushil Jindal, Kashmiri Lal Garg, Dimple Kumar, Deepak Jindal, Rampal Chawla, and Vicky Arya.
