Kaithal, August 23 — Under the directions of SP Aastha Modi, Kaithal Police intensified action against fraud, illegal arms, explosives, and theft. Several accused have been arrested in separate cases, bringing relief to citizens.
₹22 Lakh Fraud in Canada Work Permit Case
The Economic Offences Wing, led by Inspector Om Prakash and ASI Rampal Singh, arrested Gurjant Singh of Punjab’s Malerkotla district for duping a family of nearly ₹22 lakh on the pretext of securing a Canada work permit.
The victim, Kuldeep Singh of village Ramthali, alleged that in July 2022 Gurjant Singh and his wife Gurmeet Kaur promised a two-year work permit in exchange for ₹45 lakh. Trusting them, Kuldeep handed over passports, documents, and later paid ₹21.99 lakh in installments.
Instead of delivering, the accused provided fake visas for New Zealand and Canada. When asked for a refund, the accused issued threats. The police registered a case and secured three-day remand for further investigation.
Illegal Pistol Seized in Pundri
In another case, the Special Detective Unit arrested Dushyant of village Pharal near Pundri. Acting on a tip-off, police recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol and one cartridge. A case under the Arms Act was registered, and the accused was arrested by ASI Tarsem Singh.
Explosives Found in Residential House
A joint raid by the Fire Station team, CM Flying Squad, and Civil Lines Police recovered large quantities of explosive material from a rented house in Janakpuri Colony, Kaithal.
Gurmeet of Ambedkar Nagar was found storing 145.38 kg of “chatar-patar” crackers and 351 kg of other explosive powder without license or permit. The explosives were seized, and a case under the Explosives Act was registered. Gurmeet was arrested on the spot.
Third Accused Held in Anganwadi Theft
Ramthali Police arrested Deshraj alias Desha of village Kharka for his involvement in the theft of items from an Anganwadi center. The theft, reported by worker Gyano Devi, took place on May 27 when a water pump, gas cylinder, RO, and weighing machine were stolen.
Two accused had already been arrested earlier. The latest arrest led to the recovery of one stolen cylinder. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
