Ghaggar River Water Level Triggers Administrative Alert

The Kaithal district administration remained on high alert on Sunday following a rise in the water level of the Ghaggar River. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti conducted a field inspection of key areas including the Tatiana Ghaggar Bridge, Sarola siphon, and flood points in Guhla and Bhatia.

DC Preetiโ€™s On-Site Inspection of Flood-Prone Areas

DC Preeti visited Tatiana Bridge on the Kaithal-Patiala road to monitor the current water level, which was recorded at approximately 21 feet. She interacted with farmers, heard their concerns, and instructed the irrigation department to strengthen embankments as requested.

Further inspections included:

  • Sarola siphon: Ensured proper functioning and addressed farmer grievances.
  • Rattakheda-Lukman Ghaggar Dam: Reviewed stone pitching and fencing efforts, especially in areas where embankments broke during the 2023 floods.
  • Bhatia Ghaggar Point: Monitored incoming water from Punjab and ordered round-the-clock guard deployment at the Bhatia inlet channel.

DC Preeti directed the irrigation department to:

  • Keep both empty and filled sandbags ready

  • Assign permanent guards at critical siphon locations
  • Reinforce weak sections of embankments immediately

Situation Under Control, Public Advised Not to Panic

In her public message, DC Preeti emphasized that the water level of the Ghaggar River remains below the danger mark and the overall situation in the district is stable. She assured that the administration is in constant touch with neighboring districts in Punjab and Haryana.

She urged residents to:

  • Stay calm and avoid panic
  • Refrain from believing or spreading rumors
