Maize and Rice Broken Trade Fraud Exposed in Cheeka

Cheeka police have arrested an accused in a major fraud case involving the purchase of maize and rice broken worth over ₹14.71 lakh. The swift action came after a local mill owner reported being cheated under the pretext of a trade deal.

Complaint by Mill Owner

According to police spokespersons, Amar Singla, resident of Ward No. 6, Cheeka and owner of Shankar Rice and General Mills, lodged a complaint. On August 16, a man identified as Jwala Prasad Garg contacted his son, Sansar Singla, expressing interest in buying maize and rice broken.

A deal was finalized — maize at ₹2,135 per quintal and rice broken at ₹2,171 per quintal.

Goods Delivered, Payment Not Made

Following the agreement, on August 18, two tractor-trailers carrying 465 quintals and 20 kilograms of maize were sent to Garg’s warehouse. Payment was promised by August 25, but Garg sought an extension until August 30, citing bank limit issues.

Trusting him, Singla delivered another 220 quintals of rice broken on August 27. However, when they demanded payment, it was discovered that Garg had fled with his family.

Fraud Amounts to ₹14.71 Lakh

Investigations revealed that the consignment of rice broken had been taken by a driver named Surbhi to Handeswara Chowk, Ambala. Initially, the driver promised to return the goods but later switched off his phone.

In total, the complainant suffered a loss of ₹14,71,000. A case was registered at Cheeka Police Station.

Police Action and Arrest

Under the supervision of PSI Aman Kumar, Station House Officer of Cheeka, and with the efforts of ASI Jasbir and HC Sumit Kumar, the team traced the accused. On Wednesday evening, the police successfully arrested Jwala Prasad Garg, resident of Ward No. 14, Cheeka, from Kharar village in Mohali, Punjab.

Accused in Custody

The accused will be produced in court on Thursday, where further interrogation will be carried out. Police assured that the matter is under investigation and more details may emerge regarding the fraud network.
