Vigilance and Awareness Are the Biggest Weapons Against Cybercrime: SP Aastha Modi

Kaithal Police appeals to citizens: Be alert to stay safe from cyber fraud

Kaithal, September 9 — Rising cybercrime cases can only be prevented through vigilance and awareness. SP Aastha Modi said that with the increasing use of digital transactions and online facilities, cases of cyber fraud are also on the rise. Fraudsters are constantly targeting people through fake calls, SMS, links, emails, mobile apps, and social media platforms.

SP Aastha Modi emphasized that adopting simple precautions can protect individuals from online fraud:

  1. Never share your OTP, ATM PIN, account number, or password with anyone, even if they claim to be a bank officer, police personnel, or government employee.
  2. Do not click suspicious links received from unknown numbers. Always verify the authenticity before taking any action.
  3. Beware of scams like “KYC update,” “lottery won,” or “you have received a prize” — these are common tricks used by cybercriminals.
  4. Do not share personal or banking details on social media. Keep privacy settings secure.
  5. Avoid downloading fake apps or software. Install applications only from official websites or verified app stores.
  6. Guide children to stay away from unsafe online gaming, chatting with strangers, or accessing suspicious content.
  7. In case of cyber fraud, immediately contact the cyber helpline number 1930 or report to the nearest police station.
  8. For online complaints, visit the official government website www.cybercrime.gov.in.

Message from SP Aastha Modi:

“A little awareness and vigilance can protect you from financial and mental harm. Use the internet carefully and if you fall victim to any fraud, don’t panic — immediately contact the police. The police are always with you.”

She further stated that Kaithal Police is continuously conducting awareness campaigns to protect citizens from cybercrime. Programs on cyber safety are being organized in schools, colleges, village panchayats, and various institutions to ensure that more and more people remain alert against online fraud.
