Ghaggar Farmers’ Suggestions to Be Reviewed in One Week: DC Preeti

Joint Meeting of Farmers and Administration

Kaithal, September 15 – Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti announced that the suggestions and concerns raised by farmers from Haryana and Punjab’s Ghaggar belt will be compiled into a detailed report within a week. The directive came during a joint meeting held at Kaithal Mini Secretariat, attended by farmers, local representatives, and officials from irrigation and revenue departments, along with SDM Guhla.

Government’s Focus on Preventing Losses

DC Preeti stated that under the guidance of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the government’s priority is to ensure that farmers and residents do not suffer damages when Ghaggar river water levels rise. She emphasized that preventive steps have already been taken this season, which prevented floodwater from entering villages.

Action Plan Within a Week

The irrigation department has been instructed to prepare a comprehensive action plan, incorporating all farmer suggestions and complaints. This plan will be sent to the government for approval and implemented immediately. The focus will be on strengthening flood-prevention measures before the next monsoon season.

Farmers’ Suggestions and Concerns

During the meeting, farmers from both Punjab and Haryana highlighted recurring problems due to waterlogging every 2–3 years. They suggested cleaning the Ghaggar riverbed and strengthening embankments. Farmers expressed satisfaction with the administration’s responses and hoped for long-term solutions.

Positive Outcome of the Discussion

DC Preeti described the discussion as positive and result-oriented, assuring farmers that their concerns would be addressed. She stressed that the administration is committed to ensuring no damage occurs to agricultural lands or populated areas on either side of the Ghaggar.

Key Officials and Participants

The meeting saw the presence of SE Neeraj Sharma (Irrigation Department), SDM Captain Parmesh Singh, DRO Chandermohan, DSP Kuldeep Beniwal, and other officials. Farmer representatives included Surender Singh Khedki, Ramesh Goyal, Sarpanch Harcharan Singh, Vishav Aman Gill, Gurnam Singh, and leaders from villages Khambheda and Sarola.
