Youths Urged to Avoid Drugs, Focus on Sports

St. John Ambulance India Organizes Health Workshop

A special physical health workshop was organized by St. John Ambulance International Association, India at Cheeka on September 15, 2025. The event focused on creating awareness among youths about the ill effects of drugs and inspiring them to engage in sports and healthy lifestyles. Around 250 students participated and received life-saving first aid training during the program.

Drugs Harm Family, Society, and Nation

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rajpal Punia, National President of St. John Ambulance India, said that drug abuse is not only a social crime but also destroys family peace and social harmony. He emphasized that drug addiction reduces the individual’s contribution to social and national development.

“Young people play a crucial role in the progress of the nation and maintaining social unity. Therefore, they must prioritize sports over addiction,” said Dr. Punia. He further added that the association will continue motivating the youth across all states of India to uphold the nation’s identity, culture, and sports spirit.

Drugs Are a Slow Poison

Dr. Raja Singh Jhinjer, Master Trainer and Gold Medalist from St. John Ambulance India (Kaithal branch), explained that drugs act as a slow poison which destroys health, happiness, and harmony. He warned that addicts eventually isolate themselves from love, brotherhood, and society.

He reminded students that today’s healthy youth are the foundation of the nation’s bright future. Hence, students must undergo health and safety training to prepare themselves for challenges.

Oath Against Drug Abuse

Dr. Jhinjer administered an oath to students and teachers, urging them to stay away from addiction and work towards a drug-free society. He highlighted that drug abuse also fuels social crimes, making it even more dangerous.

During the session, he trained participants in CPR and first aid techniques, guiding them on decision-making in emergencies, primary medical care, and safe hospital transfers. He also demonstrated how to carry an unconscious person safely using the fireman’s lift.

Focus on Health and Preparedness

The workshop ended with a call for everyone to remain prepared for natural disasters and sudden accidents, ensuring they can contribute to relief and rescue operations.

Prominent attendees included Ramkumar Punia, Pragat Singh, Sonu Ram, and school faculty members, who actively supported the program.
