Be Cautious While Dialing Customer Care Fraud: SP Kaithal

Fraudsters Using Fake Customer Care Numbers

Kaithal, October 3 – In today’s digital era, cybercriminals are constantly inventing new methods of fraud. One such method is posing as fake customer care representatives to cheat people of their hard-earned money. Fraudsters upload fake customer care Fraud numbers on Google, Facebook, Twitter, and even Google Maps. Many people, while searching for helpline numbers online, end up calling these fake numbers and fall victim to scams.

Fake Websites and Misinformation Tactics

Cybercriminals often create websites that look similar to genuine bank or company websites. They also post incorrect contact details on Google Maps and social media platforms. Since these fake numbers and websites look authentic, people get confused and unknowingly share sensitive information, leading to financial losses.

SP Upasana’s Safety Advisory (Online Fraid Prevention Tips)

SP Upasana warned citizens to remain cautious and follow safety measures to identify and avoid such frauds:

  • Do not trust the top search results on Google, especially if marked with Ad/Sponsored.
  • Always check if an official government site ends with .gov.in or .nic.in.
  • Verify that the website starts with https:// for security.
  • Never rely solely on Google Maps results, as anyone can edit them.
  • On Twitter or Facebook, check for a blue verification tick before trusting an account.
  • Be alert if someone sends you a number directly in your inbox claiming to be customer care. Genuine institutions never do this.

Common Tricks Used by Scammers

Fraudsters also lure people with offers such as cheap loans, instant approvals, or discounts, using fake websites and phone numbers. Once trust is gained, they ask for confidential information like card numbers, CVV, PIN, net banking passwords, or OTPs. Sharing these details can lead to immediate financial fraud.

Final Warning

SP Upasana stressed that no bank or official organization will ever ask for confidential details over a call or message. She urged people not to fall for greed or urgency tactics. In case of any suspicious activity, citizens should immediately report cyber fraud on the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
