Kaithal Police Tighten Crackdown on Cyber Fraudsters; Two Arrested for Job Scam and Account Misuse

Kaithal, November 22 โ€” In a major action against cyber criminals, the Kaithal Cyber Crime Police have arrested two members of a gang involved in opening bank accounts and procuring SIM cards from innocent people under the pretext of offering jobs. Both accused have been taken on a four-day police remand for detailed interrogation.

A police spokesperson said the arrests were made as part of the ongoing cybercrime awareness and enforcement campaign being carried out under the direction of SP Upasana. While the police continue to educate citizens about cyber safety, strict action is also being taken to dismantle organised cyber fraud networks.

Woman Duped on Pretext of Job; Bank Accounts Misused

The case originated from a complaint filed by Kavita, a resident of Padla and currently living in Bhagat Singh Colony, Kaithal. According to her statement, her husband met an unknown youth at a liquor shop, who claimed he could secure Kavita a job with a monthly salary of โ‚น15,000.

Believing him, her husband took Kavita to Pehowa Chowk to meet the man. He convinced her that opening bank accounts and obtaining new SIM cards were part of the job formalities. Trusting his words, Kavita handed over her Aadhaar card, PAN card, and photographs.

The youth accompanied her to several banks, opened multiple accounts in her name, and kept all account kits with himself. He also took possession of her mobile phone under the pretext of registering her number, which had her HDFC Bank account linked.

A few days later, Kavita discovered that โ‚น40,000 had been withdrawn from her account without her knowledge.

Gang Targeted Multiple People Using Job Offers

The complainant further revealed that she had informed several othersโ€”Jyoti, Shivani, and Arjunโ€”about the supposed job opportunity. The accused then similarly took bank accounts and SIM cards from them as well.

A case was registered at Cyber Crime Police Station, Kaithal.

Technical Investigation Leads to Arrests

Under the guidance of Cyber Crime SHO PSI Shubhranshu, the team led by SI Surender Singh carried out a technical investigation and identified the suspects. The accused were arrested as:

  • Amarjeet, resident of Ghasso Khurd, Jind
  • Deepak, resident of Chainat, Hisar

During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the duo targeted unemployed individuals, lured them with fake job promises, collected their documents, and opened bank accounts that were later used for online cyber frauds.

Both have been remanded to police custody for four days for further interrogation, and more revelations are expected as the probe continues.
