Women’s Confidence Grows Through Sports Competitions: Sukhvinder Kaur Majri
Guhla-Cheeka, January 6 – A rural-level women’s sports competition was organized on Tuesday at the Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Cheeka, under the aegis of the Women and Child Development Department. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of women belonging to various villages of the block.
The program was inaugurated by Block Samiti Chairperson Sukhvinder Kaur Majri, who attended the event as the chief guest and formally flagged off the competition.

Sports Essential for Women’s Confidence and Health
Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Sukhvinder Kaur Majri stated that organizing sports competitions for women significantly boosts their self-confidence while also improving physical and mental health. She emphasized that women should be encouraged to step out of their homes and actively participate in such events.
“Sports competitions help women realize their inner strength. Regular organization of such events is necessary so that women can showcase their talent and remain physically fit,” she said.
She further added that women’s participation in sports not only promotes equality but also inspires younger generations to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Large Participation from Rural Areas
Providing details of the event, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Gurjeet Kaur said that hundreds of women from rural areas participated in the competition. The events were divided into two age categories:
- 18 to 30 years
- Above 30 years
Each age group featured three competitive events to ensure equal opportunities for participants of all age brackets.
Prize Money for Winners
To encourage participation and reward talent, cash prizes were awarded to winners:
- First Prize: ₹2100
- Second Prize: ₹1100
- Third Prize: ₹750
All participants were also honored with certificates as a mark of appreciation for their efforts and enthusiasm.

- Third: Sonia (Bhuna)
100-Meter Race
- First: Sandeep (Balbehra)
- Second: Sunita Rani (Bhagal)
- Third: Gurmeet (Mehmoodpur)
These events were conducted with great enthusiasm, drawing cheers from fellow participants and spectators.

300-Meter Race

400-Meter Race

5-Kilometer Cycle Race

The cycling race, in particular, attracted wide attention and applause due to the stamina and determination displayed by the participants.

Block Samiti Chairperson Sukhvinder Kaur Majri and CDPO Gurjeet Kaur jointly distributed certificates to all participating women, appreciating their courage and active involvement. The gesture motivated the participants and reinforced the importance of women’s empowerment through sports.

During the event, 14 Anganwadi workers were honored at the block level for their outstanding performance on the Poshan Tracker. The awardees included:

The event saw the presence of several officials and staff members, including Supervisors Navjeet Kaur, Deepti, Kavita, Sharmila, Sonia, Savita, and Pooja, along with Assistant Khem Lata, Clerk Kuldeep, Makhan, and other department members.
Anganwadi workers from all villages and block-level supervisors were also present, making the event a collective celebration of women’s empowerment.
