Power Employees Protest Government Neglect, Nationwide Strike Announced for February 12

Guhla-Cheeka – Strong resentment is growing among electricity department employees over the continued neglect of their demands. Under the call of the state committee, a meeting of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh Unit Guhla, affiliated with the All Haryana Power Corporation Workers Union, was held recently. During the meeting, employees expressed deep anger over pending demands and the policies of the Haryana government and power corporation management.

Union leaders unanimously criticized the government for ignoring workers’ issues for years, despite repeated assurances and even court orders.

Government Ignoring Workers’ Demands: Abhishek Sharma

Addressing the meeting, State Secretary Abhishek Sharma said that both the Haryana government and power corporation management have been continuously neglecting the legitimate demands of electricity employees.

He pointed out that despite clear directions from the Honourable Supreme Court, contractual employees who have been working for 10 to 10 years have still not been regularized. Moreover, they are being denied the principle of “equal pay for equal work”, which is a serious violation of workers’ rights.

Electricity Department Is Highly Risk-Prone

Abhishek Sharma emphasized that the electricity department is one of the most dangerous departments to work in. He said that when an employee leaves home for duty, there is no guarantee that they will return safely in the evening.

He alleged that thousands of power workers have lost their lives while working on live power lines, yet they have not even been granted the status of martyrs. Despite such risks, employees are still not being paid any risk allowance, which reflects the insensitive attitude of the authorities.

Public Assets Being Sold at Throwaway Prices

The union strongly condemned the alleged privatization of public assets built through the hard work and sacrifices of electricity employees. Leaders accused both the central and state governments of selling public sector assets at throwaway prices to their favored corporate houses.

They described these policies as anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-student, and anti-employee, warning that such decisions would severely impact public services and job security.

Decision to Launch a Strong Movement

During the meeting, it was decided that a broad-based unity would be formed against these policies and a strong movement would be launched against the Haryana government.

Union leaders said that employees are left with no option but to intensify their struggle to protect their rights and dignity.

Schedule of Upcoming Agitations Announced

Sharing details of the upcoming protest programs, the union announced a phased agitation plan:

  • January 15, 2026: Joint Farmers-Workers-Employees Conference in Jind
  • January 19, 2026: Massive demonstrations at district headquarters across India
  • February 12, 2026: Nationwide strike by power employees

The leaders said these programs would send a strong message to the government and force it to address the long-pending demands of employees.

Meeting Chaired by Sandeep Saini

The meeting was chaired by Unit President Sandeep Saini, while the proceedings were conducted by Secretary Rakesh Kumar. Several senior leaders and members attended the meeting and extended their full support to the agitation call.

Prominent among those present were State Leader Swaraj Singh, Baljinder Seeda, and unit and sub-unit leaders Sandeep Garg, Harichand, Joginder, Kashmir, Devraj Sharma, Satish Poonia, Naresh Beniwal, Dharamveer Seeda, Sachin Sharma, Chandaram, Charan Singh, Anuj Paras, Sukhvinder, along with a large number of power employees.

Employees United for Their Rights

Speakers at the meeting reiterated that employees will no longer tolerate injustice, exploitation, and neglect. They appealed to all electricity workers to remain united and actively participate in the upcoming protest programs.

According to the union, unity and collective struggle are the only ways to safeguard workers’ rights and ensure dignity and security for electricity employees.
