Teams Visit Villages and Fields to Educate Farmers for Stubble Burning Awareness
Kaithal, November 13 — Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Upasana, the Kaithal district police have intensified their village-to-village awareness campaign urging farmers not to burn crop residue (parali) after the paddy harvest.
Police teams are visiting villages and fields to engage directly with farmers, explaining the environmental and health hazards caused by stubble burning.
SP Upasana: Burning Stubble Harms Air, Soil, and Health
SP Upasana stated that burning paddy residue significantly increases air pollution, which poses serious risks not only to human health but also to animals and the environment.
“Stubble burning reduces the fertility of the soil and deteriorates land quality,” she explained.
She appealed to farmers to use Custom Hiring Centers and crop residue management machines provided by the government. These modern agricultural tools help mix the residue into the soil, thereby improving soil fertility naturally instead of harming it.
Police Keeping Strict Watch on Violators
SP Upasana warned that stubble burning is not only environmentally harmful but also a punishable offense under the law.
The district administration and police are maintaining strict surveillance on farmers attempting to burn crop residue. She urged farmers to adopt scientific and eco-friendly methods for stubble disposal and contribute to creating a clean and pollution-free environment.
Police Teams Actively Engaging with Farmers
According to the police spokesperson, all DSPs, Station House Officers (SHOs), and other police personnel are actively participating in this awareness campaign. They are conducting meetings in villages, chaupals, and fields, educating farmers about the detrimental effects of stubble burning.
The teams are also highlighting how burning crop residue pollutes the air and increases the risk of respiratory and heart diseases.
“The campaign will continue across the district, with police officers encouraging farmers to spread awareness among their peers,” the spokesperson added.
Community Cooperation Is Key
Police officials emphasized that public cooperation is essential for success. Farmers are being requested to educate fellow farmers in their areas so that no one resorts to burning stubble.
The ongoing efforts by Kaithal Police reflect a proactive approach toward environmental protection, combining law enforcement with education and empathy.
